Persona True

Persona True
Hale, adventurous, active male, open to life’s challenge each day,
Faithful follow of Word Made Flesh, active student of the Way.
Servant king, humorous conversationalist, flipper of phrase,
Heart led, spirit filled, harmonizer, out of synch with latest craze.

Male means deadly honest regarding matters true to life.
Open to exploration of sexuality, integrity sought not strife.
Broad constructor of male role model Creator would have us know.
Strong partner, negotiator of daily tasks, seldom arrogant seeds to sow;

Explorer, trailblazer, willing party member on life’s trail,
Diversion seeker pushing to conclusion, trimmer of the sail;
Resourceful worker, solver of ‘remodel, refit’ fixes,
Never ‘put-off’ by situational dilemmas, cultural ‘nixes’.

Soul-mate willing to accompany best beloved at each turn,
Persistent partner finding the solution, truth to discern;
Self-sufficiency a most important trait, collaboration next,
Often oarsman in our dinghy for two, seldom by seas vext;

Father of four, grandfather of five, father-in-law of two,
Present guide, problem solver, heartfelt listener for the crew.
Benign progenitor with no need to claim first billing,
Encourager of adult behavior of any and all willing;

Brother, brother-in-law, nephew, cousin, uncle, friend, neighbor,
Common resource for the community willing to sweat, labor;
Open door keeper, beverage sharer, toilet tender, hospitable bloke,
Justice seeker, peace lover, issue resolver, in grace’s truth to soak.

Younger elder, ordained servant, council member willing to meet,
Sometime chair of the taskforce, healthy outcome to entreat;
Corporate ethical standards created to level high,
Accountability for choices, decisions, policies ever nigh;

Playmate, droll mime, street actor ever on the prowl,
Grocery line commentator, noter of ‘well-done’, seldom a growl;
Builder of community wellness, quiet provider for needs,
‘Now’ liver noting situations dire, growing compassion from seeds;

Shadow-Light a paradox, true to Creator’s own design.
This assertion stated has the contrary truth to mine.
Sweet Reader dear, may I suggest your own lay to state?
I’ll happily receive your tell, my curiosity to slake.

True Self

True Self

Pithy personality, rich fullness fills the inner realm, being brims lapping.
Brittle ego continues to control, to maintain appearances, society capping.
Content created by Word Made Flesh brings paradox to its full, magisterial height.
Creator of All infuses health, wholeness, sends falsehood in flight.

No need to masque the reality, more effectively claim one’s being.
Keeper of All lays out the fullness of each created one, sending Satan fleeing.
Baptized into Christ Jesus, one becomes a child of the Most High.
Forever the path clear, living with eternal hope, a promise ever nigh.

Our world loves the superficiality of competition, appearances photo-shopped.
Pasted smiles, condescending poses, pretentious resume’s, unappealing views cropped.
Spirit smiles with fulsome grace, filling Creator’s beloved with a joyous mirth.
They hold all imaginable skill, ability, possibility from their moment of birth.

Transparency, congruency, integrity, completeness only Keeper of All can maintain.
Our daily task to bring forth the caring person who can all hiddenness disdain.
Blessed the person who lives in the presence of the Almighty, fully experiencing love;
No innate capacity exists to be complete, ‘tis a gift including angels from above.

Word Become Flesh demonstrates the process by which incarnation works.
Natural processes bring miracles daily in a fecund flowing way, no flailing jerks.
From squalling little babe to curious boy to working carpenter in the shop,
Jesus of Nazareth grew in preparation for His Savior-hood, nothing could stop.

Each of us, a unique contribution, no one else can occupy our role.
We bring God Almighty’s plan, from the essence of each soul.
History documents the story, this magnificent tale, God’s drama.
No erasures, no missteps final, no false outcomes, down to the comma.

Honest introspection, dialogue probes to the core, examine each aspect real.
Our lives bring a working laboratory; we, the very players in life’s big deal.
Look into the mirror of God’s Word, let Spirit cleanse the understanding lens.
Boldly bring out the truth within you, your effort will truth cleanse.

Supple the boundaries of life, beautiful the creation God has made.
Bring your best effort to the day; know it contains bright light, soft shade.
Yourself, God’s great gift to you, your self-expression states God’s truth.
With passionate devotion let out the wonder felt, hide it not in ego’s little booth.

Healthy Laughter

Healthy Laughter

Shadow-work often begets deep regret.
Shame-faced visage, non-verbal moans.
Disconcerted, ego expresses loss of control, will fret.
Successful dishonesty looks for rescue, just groans.

Slowly the shadow becomes mapped, extent known.
Has the light gotten neglected, squelched to a nub?
Rampant shadow-self in my fertile fields seeds sown.
How shall I root out, cast away or erasure rub?

Seldom somber Spirit shows up on the scene.
“You say this shadow-self a constant struggle.”
“Your estimate of your light-self needs a scrub clean.”
“You’ve read Potter, don’t act the foolish Muggle!”

“One by one bring the shadow elements into the light.”
“Adults regularly clean out, identify the clutter.”
“Can you conceive of an action, thought, belief with its blight,
That causes Creator, Word Made Flesh or myself to mutter?”

“In fact, your courageous examination of your whole self,
Causes The One God a high degree of hilarity;
You, a child of light, taking seriously all the stuff on your shelf,
Means the Adversary will lose again, our mission will gain clarity.”

“Folks who attempt your task with only fear, determination, alone,
Set up a hopeless process, it’s lost from the get-go.
Shadow-work profits best when I guide it with hope, grace sown.
Shake out the stuff-sacks, scrape clean the corners, get in the know.”

“Satan loves the attention of doom, gloom, despair, sins’ fracture.
Meticulous confession, deadly honest owning up, decisive action,
Force the truth to its conclusion, Christ has won eternal life to capture.
Shadow embraced, no longer false fears, dumb regrets in the caption.”

“So here’s the ultimate response to the Adversary’s hold upon you.
Look the old Fraud in the eye; note your support, chuckle.
We’ve got your back, our eternal presence will ever be true.
With relief let loose a belly laugh, totally unbuckle.”

Late Middle Age Marriage

Late Middle Age Marriage
14 June 2013

A couple score years plus a nice tip more,
We enter new territory many have never explored.
Life never better nor worse, often expressed with a roar,
We hold each other regularly, as though love can be stored.

A young couple who took their time at the beginning;
Sorted out life’s basics, included thoughtful notions;
Together we do better, our decision from the first inning.
Loving relationship a profound choice not based on potions.

Four children bring our life zest, dismay, joy, a house full.
Their lives, each unique, include us as elder trailblazers true.
Five grandchildren fill life with their challenges to mull.
Globe’s just big enough resource for dreams not a few.

Our full life has no extra space, every room’s aburst.
Phone rings, e-mails chime, deck view astounds in the ‘now’.
Ours a fluid life-style, stuck attitudes accursed.
Creator abundantly provides each day’s needs, shelter, chow.

Possessive possessions pronounce passionate pathology perchance.
Can we “share the wealth” soon enough, lest we die?
Unburdening our space will this day’s dance-floor enhance.
Clearly we can’t and won’t take stuff with us, why try?

Our progenitors provided clear commitments, historical facts.
Long genes must be included in a life-long living arrangement.
Find you and your partner a do-able space with just enough racks.
Plan ahead so that the chaos won’t break up the cement.

Daily rhythms include bathroom necessary, prayers, meals.
Trinity Lutheran community provides sisters, brothers who care.
Neighbors watch out for each other, offer local deals.
Tides, gardens, weather fronts, Creator’s abundance we share.

Now comes a 45th year, each day adventurous, full to brim.
As life graciously bestowed provides our needs to meet,
We will eat smart, exercise regularly, work at trim.
Next Flag Day, we’ll recap if that’s to be, from a year’s older seat.

Dancing Shadows

Dancing Shadows

Ah, deep the breath that settles the heart.
This day promises its blessings, its pain.
Pathway vegetation flourishes, the ‘now’ does start.
Creator encourages an adventurous traveler in sun, rain.

What will guide this day’s mission?
Has my life’s pack all resources needed?
Are my trusted companions commissioned?
Am I rested, ready or is my brow fatigue beaded?

Spirit assembles all the necessary gear.
Word Made Flesh, hand on shoulder, smiles.
Creator abundantly provides just enough confidence, fear.
Together we begin our travel each step adds into miles.

Be aware of context, look about, sniff the air.
Does sunlight play ‘mongst the shadows real?
Light defined by darkness brings vision fair.
Interior wisdom must grow strong; how do I feel?

Shadow prompts from awareness of other’s acts.
Christ referred to splinters, logs in ones’ eyes.
Shadow paths get worn in by choices, painful facts.
Spiritual living has high definition, truth never lies.

Jung explored the inner jungle, a deep, tangled maze.
Honest venturers assess skills, weaknesses, gifts.
In trusted converse open up taboos, lusts, doubts raise.
Spirit brings boldness, relationships true; Satan loves rifts.

Therapy often begins, “What don’t we want to discuss?”
Many an adolescent lives out a ripe old age in denial.
Shadow-work done daily will never faithful life crush.
A powerful spice on the trek, always met by Christ’s smile;

Spirit never shirks from life’s full expression, powerful beat.
With healthy hearts, honest minds, strong muscles enter in.
Our dance-floor, life, meant for daily living not the rare treat.
Word Become Flesh partners each one, has overcome sin.

Shadow Lessons

Shadow Lessons

Light, darkness do not oppose each other but enhance.
Definition of sight requires both elements to bring a view.
Truth asks for wholeness inclusive, never a religious trance.
Incarnational living, the joy of Word Become Flesh’s crew;

Engage the shadow, allow it full voice, see its’ presence.
As a child of light, shadow will allow no evil or sin to evade;
Don’t fear the pathway through shades essence.
Christ’s demonstration in Holy Week, the full drama played.

Early on most were reminded that pleasing power worked.
First parents asked compliance, then teachers voices raised.
“Good” children, “Good” students never the system jerked.
Rewards to the ones who agreed, never the ambience phased.

Often power makes choices that are senseless, inane.
Those subjected find their lives constantly a loss.
Shadow work brings strength to systems insane.
Wisdom guides toward wellness, life’s’ field to cross.

Every experience can be approached in the open better.
Describing its’ contours must present its wholeness complete.
Lessons of life at times come easily, other times bound in fetter.
Word Become Flesh shows how faith works by grace replete.

Once a little lad saw a necklace fine and fair,
He put it in his pocket to have, to hold.
Mother said, “My son what have you there?”
“A beautiful necklace that I found.” his reply bold;

“Where did you get this lovely, beautiful thing?”
“I found it in a jewel box on your dresser in your room.”
“I see.” She said. “To that box the necklace we must bring.”
“But mother, I want it close not in that boxlike tomb.”

“You have a heart for loveliness my son.”
“I also share that joyful, delicious trait.”
“Another’s treasure needs respect, else sin will stun.”
“What do think we must do to avoid a complaint?”

Quietly, the boy thought. Mother gave him amply time.
“Let’s put your necklace in its place, then it won’t be lost.”
“May I look through your box of jewels, it is a sight sublime.”
“You’re a most lovely jewel to me, my son when truth’s boundary’s not crossed.”

Weeds and Wheat

Weeds and Wheat

Master Gardener looks upon the field, growth sees.
Planted crop, strong winter wheat come to full stand;
‘Midst the flowing stalks, outliers’ independence decrees.
Common ground feeds each plant through roots grand.

We farm folk plan, plot, plant, our goals to accomplish now.
Crop etiquette often asks adjustment to make harvest full.
Uniform seeds, straight rows, furrowed feed mixed with a plow,
Growing to maturity Spirit blesses abundantly, no plant does cull.

Our personalities come from a vast collection of attributes real.
Psychology, sociology, physiology attempt to bring theory to bear,
Culture organizes itself around traits most marketable with zeal.
The self persistently draws together a presence Creator thinks fair.

Growing daily seems the most curious of life’s events.
Layers of interaction allow perspective with healthy ecology true.
Solitary individuals stand unique, their presence none prevents.
Mosaic most profound inclusive of all, respecting the few;

Co-creation brings a life-long practice of alignment with the truth.
Word Become Flesh actively works the field of life all His days.
The paradox of ‘wheat – weediness’ determined by context, forsooth;
Each living thing brings out the wonder of creation, showing Gods’ ways.

Look lovingly at the effects of history on your person.
Note the losses, the joys, the challenges, the success.
You have accumulated all that’s needed for this days’ run.
Intentional living notes each special ingredient a ripening process.

Spirit patiently assists each part of the greater design.
Wisdom guides the Master Gardner’s hand to prune or feed.
Word Become Flesh summons to a meal of bread and wine.
Our role: dance, serve, applaud, grow lusciously, plant seed.

Well here we are at our time of life in a field of joyful wonder.
Decide your role, wheat or weed, grow strong, be ever true.
Don’t let sin or fear or destruction bring you asunder.
Harvest time’s on the horizon, ‘tis a glorious view.

Hey Melver!

Hey Melver!
(In honor of John Andrew Melver’s retirement, 10 June 2013)

Some folks have a job, the blessed a vocation.
Those aware, know life brings gifts each can use.
John knew sports and games, not just for vacation.
Deeply in love with physical health almost to abuse;

Growing up, he did survive well, with an older brother,
‘Team Melver’ was a duo that no neighbor could daunt.
Soon outshining that sib John lettered without a bother,
Marching through high school, college, prowess never did flaunt.

Ellensburg called with its cowboy, cowgirl flair.
Central Washington State brought more than a degree.
A deeply loved partner, Julie Pomeroy, his soul-mate fair,
Amazing match this king and queen of PE for all to see;

Education professional from graduation day,
John was willing to provide a strong teacher at work.
An odyssey of schools, districts, collected on the way.
None ever thought their PE teacher, Melver, a jerk.

Soon the halls would ring with the shout, “Hey Melver!”
Colleagues, students one and all, found a resource of love.
Serious lessons with a strong dose of humor, always clever,
‘Team Melver’ always a strong contender, values from above.

Melver family life resplendent with strong waves of joy,
 Toby, Joshua, Megan, Kiki, Emily each a blessing true;
Today a pleasing sight, players all, skills and gifts employ.
Together they bring love, justice, learning to not a few.

Faith has ever been a hallmark of this man’s life.
Never timid or shy, he leads out his LDS banner high.
Whatever the day brings, soft breezes, shearing strife,
John, his crew will address the truth without fear or sigh.

So Melver, another large volume in life’s library draws to a close.
Your long-lasting genes will sustain another score of years.
Be assured we deeply love you, a present blessing as time flows.
Find the rhythm of life’s playground; you’ve made it safe, no fears.
