Life's Knots

Life’s Knots

Moments mark the passage of life.
Each a knot in the tatting of time;
Some complete a healing from strife.
Some highlight a wisdom sublime.

Creator holds the ‘mazing design.
Spirit brings together each loose strand.
Word Become Flesh works alongside, just fine.
Co-creating with the created, a wholesome band;

Intentional movement brings meaning out.
Loose strands of life may abide awhile.
Situations shift from murmur to shout,
Level places transform from hapless pile.

Serenity fills soul with healing balm.
Open, calloused hands pause in break.
Clean water, parched lips bring calm.
God’s plans line-out the surveyor’s stake.

Patterns of living require limits, bounds.
Emotional breadth knows joy to despair.
Honest suffering gives heart-full tunes sounds.
Life’s design magnificent detail, ego beware.

Earliest score of years, safety nurtured.
Next score vocations tried, learning from books.
Third score perfecting, refining, recasting the ruptured;
Fourth score allows vision from retirement’s nooks.

Each trip of life, a conscious step by step;
Gentle are the knots that bring joyful flare.
History marked not by tangled threads but faith kept.
Services rendered, lives touched by justice’s dare.

Sisters, brothers each one a disciple of the One,
Entrust your strands, hold softly each loose end.
Note the knots that formed at setting sun.
A glorious needlework show just round the bend;

The Rev. Ronald Allen Melver, M.Div.
